Google Algorithm Change: At the end of January Google decided to use the page layout of your site to decide where to rank you.

More specifically, if you have too many ads and not enough useful content above the fold (top half) of your site, your ranking will be hurt.

The purpose is to penalize sites that aren’t providing quality content to their visitors. This in turn will improve their overall search results for the rest of us.
